Kendrick Disch is the CEO of Vertical River, a fully remote production company based in Atlanta, with editors living and working across the city. One of his clients, a personal trainer, wanted to launch a full “master class” video series. To meet a tight deadline, Vertical River needed a fast, efficient, affordable way to collaborate with all parties.
“Alteon saved us hours and hours and hours of time on this project," Disch said. "We would have had to exchange hard drives and drive all over the city in order to make this project work on deadline. I know we couldn’t have gotten it done without Alteon.”
**Problem**
Vertical River’s client, Tyler, runs his own company, The Bucking Fit Life. Tyler personally recorded hundreds of videos for a new master class that covers physical fitness, nutrition, mental health and more. Disch needed a way to get these hundreds of hours of original, high-res video footage from Tyler to his two editors, all of whom live far apart from each other.
**Goals**
• Get original files from camera to editors quickly and securely, instead of driving hard drives around the Atlanta metro area
Consolidate Vertical River’s workflow, instead of relying on ad hoc prosumer solutions such as Dropbox and Google Drive
House content long-term in a central, secure repository, accessible to multiple parties without needing to download or install additional software
**Solution**
When the Alteon team reached out to Vertical River and explained our offering, Disch immediately signed on. “I was looking for a solution that would allow all of us to collaborate seamlessly,” he said.
Because of the nature of the shoot, Tyler spent several months shooting videos when he could. Disch wanted his editors to start working on each video ASAP. He had previously relied on driving around the city to exchange hard drives in person, but thanks to Alteon’s non-user upload functionality, he could have Tyler upload videos to the main project in Alteon. From there, he could divide the project into specific subfolders and give each editor permission to only the footage they needed to work on. This meant less confusion and faster workflows for everyone involved.
“We were still shooting video two days before the launch of the course,” Disch said. “As soon as the shoot was over, we uploaded the videos to Alteon and the editors could get to work immediately. There was hardly any time lost between shooting and editing. That saved us—otherwise, we would have blown the deadline.”
Disch has explored other tools in the past, including prosumer storage solutions and NAS drives, but is most impressed with Alteon. He lauds the team for clearly understanding production workflows and building a tool that meets those requirements.
“I didn’t know I needed this, but now I know,” he said. “It’s a great tool.”
