In 1999, I received my first true non-linear editing computer. It was a Silicon Graphics 320 Visual Workstation. Having edited tape-to-tape until that point, seeing my footage on a computer screen marked the first time I could edit my own videos in a way I had never seen before, using what was, at the time, a relatively new editing program, the original Adobe Premiere.
I was hooked. Being able to visualize edits, move clips around and stack layers opened up my creative process in a way I’d never before imagined.
Years later, when I started editing professionally, I stepped away from Premiere for a time while working for some of the world’s biggest brands and global networks. Then I stepped away from editing, too, to pursue directing and producing at my creative agency, before launching a new company and building an entire production ecosystem called Alteon.
Last month, I was able to enjoy something of a homecoming to Adobe, as the product I have had in my head for over a decade—one which began as a tablecloth sketch in a Chicago restaurant—announced an official extension for Premiere Pro. After more than two decades of experience with Adobe products, I’m able to work with them in a new way.
Our extension allows editors to work off content housed in the cloud. Just as the original Adobe Premiere opened my eyes to a new way of creating content, the Alteon extension for Premiere Pro will help redefine the creative workflows for our growing community. Our goal is clear: we want to bring editors closer to the camera, just as our platform transfers footage straight from camera to cloud.
For a decade, I’ve wanted to build a tool that I would personally want to use—something that would solve problems I, along with the many creators I’ve worked with, have faced firsthand. Working with Adobe has always been part of that plan. Their products have defined industry standards, and Premiere Pro is part of every editor’s journey toward a professional career.
I’m grateful to everyone from their team who worked one-on-one with our developers to streamline our product. I hope you’ll enjoy using the Alteon extension for Adobe Premiere Pro, and appreciate that it was created with the care and knowledge of two world-class teams who care about editors equally and passionately.
